Pre-Season Through, Roster Review - 2013

There were a few surprises regarding roster cuts, but none as puzzling as the team keeping 4 QBs...meaning they kept Rex Grossman and Pat White.  Most fans just had to root for White, who faired well given his limited starting experience and years away from the NFL.

Here are a few reasons why White was kept on the roster (per Rich Tandler):

Here is a link to who didn't make the cut:

Here is the current depth chart:

There were a few other surprises worth mentioning...

Tyler Polumbus retained his starting role and no veteran was kept to play behind him.  The team kept T Tom Compton to back up both T spots...and he played well in pre-season.

We only kept 5 WR, but did keep 4 TE and 4 RB, so there are plenty of targets and play-makers to be found.

The depth chart has Aldrick Robinson ahead of Santana Moss, but I would expect that Moss will get more opportunities then Robinson, and will likely have an important roll in the offense.

RB Chris Thompson has emerged as a force at KR, and though he had a few fumbles in action at RB, you can tell he has break-away moves and speed.  Having him active on game-days could lead to the occasional carry and role in the offense.  We have yet to see him and RG3 in the Pistol/Option Offense.  Thompson has good hands too and could find a role in a multiple RB formation too.

The secondary race thinned when Phillip Thomas went out for the year, but it did invite a new-comer who worked his way onto the roster...Jose Gumbs.  He is a bit undersized, in current NFL standards, but I like watching him play...he has flashes, natural gravity to the ball and an old-school kind of game at safety...deceptively quick.  Nice to have young guys around with those skills....you never know when they will be asked to take it to the next level.

Rambo is now a starting FS in the NFL.  Hard worker, improved tackler, and great addition to a needy backfield.  I like his ability to protect against the deep pass.  In years to come, I see him developing into a Pro-Bowl FS...maybe even this year.

Now...is it MONDAY NIGHT YET!?!?!?

Hail to the Redskins!
