I decided to wait over 24 hours to cool after after the Redskins loss Sunday against the Panthers, in hopes that I would not become one of those "bashing bloggers". I think it is even more difficult because I am a very dedicated and passionate fan....as are many Redskins fans, especially my readers.
I am not going to tell you everything is going to be alright.
Don't worry...no pep talks!
Here we go....
Penalties destroyed our chances....13 penalties for 97 yards...it is disrespectful to the game to commit that many penalties and IMPOSSIBLE to win a game with that much lack of discipline.
The Redskins offensive play-calling was silly at times...novice even. The Redskins offense has guys out there making plays...Griffin, Morris, Morgan. The play calling seems to eliminate any momentum they establish. The offense becomes predictable. I am beginning to think me or you could call a better game with this exact same team....hell, let Griffin call the plays...at this point I trust a rookie QB more than Kyle.
The Redskins defense is still not what is used to be. The defensive play-calling did not seem to make sense at times. The secondary proved that it will still give up big plays at times. Even though this is NOT last years defense, it is still good enough for us to win a few more games than we have. Can't blame the defense this time, though, when a no-name Panther WR breaks a long pass on ya....well, not so "easy to watch" for fans.
The offense gave up too many sacks. Coverage, play-calling, and poor blocking were all contributing factors.
Calling a professional NFL game a "Home Coming" is not only juvenile but just plain bad ju ju. They jinxed us. That whole, "Must Win Game" crap really sets us up too....EVERY FRICKING NFL GAME is a MUST WIN.
Shanny's post-game comments struck me differently than most...I saw a coach that KNOWS his team can play better and is just not performing...I think he meant that he plans on holding players responsible and expects 100% regardless of record....not that he is giving up....but, still not the most motivating thought.
Oh crap, I am a "bashing blogger"...
So, what can fans take from this loss that makes them keep hope?
We have 5 division games left, and though we would most likely have to win out those 5 games, we are still not out by any means.
The offense, I believe, has the talent to win if the defense plays mediocre...and that says a lot in the NFL.
The defense held it's own, at times. Pass rush struggled....secondary struggled, but could quickly come together...is it the players or coaching? or both? We could win with these guys making a couple more plays.
There were few injuries Sunday....Santana Moss sustained a concussion in the 4th quarter. Griffin has some tender ribs, but none broken.
The throwback uniforms looked great...didn't seem to help, though.
Do the Redskins have the talent to take their game to the next level?
I have to think so...and coaches, I am sure, think so. Time for all of them to prove it or prepare to face the fire.
Though this may sound like the ramblings of a fan gone mad, I still have much faith.
Hail to the Redskins!
