Pre-Season Game 2 Review

In keeping with the theme of not over-analyzing these pre-season games, here is my simple take on pre-season game two versus the Browns.

I think most would agree, game versus the Browns looked more like an actual pre-season game then the previous game verus the Patriots.  At times, it was even hard to watch due to the number of mistakes.  I lost count on the number of flags somewhere past twenty.  Like most games, though, there was some good and bad to be found...and after all, we did win.  Some might even say that the "play of the game" came from our bench, as they obviously got under the skin of ego-maniac Johnny Manziel.

So what can we safely take away from this game?

Play calling was pretty vanilla, leading to some predictable play calling on offense, particularly in the running game...but even with that, there was progress to be found, especially with the second team offense.

Wow, DeSean Jackson can make space...he had 2 catches in the face of a defender, made one move, and picked up 10 years after the catch....combine those possession skills with his deep threat skills and watch out!

All of our receivers look good....so competition is working.  Moss, Grant, and Roberts showed that the WR competition is far from over.

Despite the Cleveland secondary doing a very good job, our guys still can get open.

Griffin was not super, but did seem to be getting through his progressions/reads quicker.

Griffin needs to protect himself better.

Roberts is a deep-ball threat, too.

ILB play was fine.

Rambo is really playing good football.

Breeland is a really physical guy.  Great tackling and hitting.  I see a future safety and a guy bidding for that Nickle CB spot.  If he can just stay away from the ganja...

We have a solid secondary this year...no question.

Our defense is not missing NEAR as many tackles as last year.

Special Teams kick coverage is very improved, over last year.  No one guys stood out, but I did see Rambo make one tackle...glad to see him on ST.

Silas Redd has great footwork...and has earned a nickname from me, #CrazyFeet.  Be sure to hit him up on Twitter with it...he seems to like it.

Despite mistakes, you could see that we are making progress.

Patience, fellow Redskins fans...patience.

Hail to the Redskins!
