Every sports fan who has been to a game or wore his or her team's jersey or log has run into that Angry Fan! The NFC East sure has it's fair share of Angry Fans as well. We are all aware of the proud, yet obnoxious, Cowboys fans....who always seem to find a way to talk down to any Redskins fan they cross. Both Eagles and Giants fans usually seem pretty bitter, often making provoking statements. Hell, just today a Cowboys fan caused me to miss a green light just so he could point at his collection of Cowboy stickers, knowing I would have to stare at them until the next green light. Fact of the matter is, Redskins fans (otherwise passionately referred to as Redskins Nation) really seem to be the nice fans of our division. Don't get me wrong, I did once build a balsam wood hang man and repeatedly hung a Troy Aikman doll on the hood of my car in the parking lot of FedEx Field a few years back....I think I am just a happier fan now. FedEx Field is a friendly place for almost any sports fan. That has not always been the case for the Redskins home turf. I hear RFK was a rough place for fans of opposing NFC East teams. FedEx Field seems to always have a few Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants fans making themselves home in our stadium...and, honestly, they seem welcomed, seldom being harassed. Sure, if you where a Tony Romo jersey, you will hear heckles from near and afar...and perhaps a few more intoxicated fans might call you out face to face...but for the most part, FedEx Field seems to be one of the most welcoming stadiums to outside fans in the NFL...and I have personally been to 11 NFL stadiums...and heckled for my Redskins gear at almost every one. So why are Redskins fans kinder fans? Perhaps it is our respect of those rivalries. I know when it came down to beating the Cowboys to get into the playoffs, I wouldn't of had it any other way. Perhaps we are just happy because things are going our way for once. Hard to get angry with an opposing fan when you feel your team is favored to win. Our draft classes have been solid and the benefits to great coaching are starting to show. Maybe it is just good times for Redskins Nation. One thing is for sure...I see more proud fans rocking team flare than ever before.
Hail to the Redskins!
